World War II - Battle of Normandy

EmptyRing.png

This virtual reality experience takes students into a heart-pounding recreation of the D-Day landing at Omaha Beach and into the heart of a Normandy village in the middle of World War II. Students start by running up the beachhead to rendevous at the top of the ridge. Then they travel to a French village and explore the streets, parks and alleys for clues, items and information. They will learn from soldiers and villagers while trying to collect items for their packs.

The VR guide will be in the village with the students to help, guide and teach them about what they are seeing, hearing and exploring. At the end, everyone meets together in a calm virtual space to debrief and discuss what they saw and learned.

Interactive Challenges

The student will arrive at the outskirts of the village where they will pick up their army pack. The scavenger hunt will require them to use clues to locate 9 different items that played pivotal roles during the invasion. Each time they find an item, they will place it in their pack.

Player Interaction

Throughout the village the students will encounter characters that will give them information or ask them for help. They will also learn valuable information from the different non-player characters found throughout the village The interactions include using a mine sweeper to locate buried mines and disabling a loudspeaker that is blaring German war propaganda.

Content Connection

Each student is equipped with a journal style fact book. As they interact with characters or discover information on propaganda posters, they will enter what they learned in their journal using a military-style typewriter and share that during the debrief meeting following the experience.

Collaboration

Unlike most games or simulations, our experiences allow the students to interact with each other within the virtual world. They will also be able to interact with the guide, who can help them with any issues, answer questions, and explain content.
